A few of us drove up to Carrara this afternoon to see the marble quarries. It is a town about an hour north of Lucca. It was so cool! As you see the mountains, it looks like they are covered in snow. But really you are seeing the marble that has been cut out of the mountain. Michelangelo visited these quarries to pick out the marble for his sculptures, so they have been cutting out marble here for hundreds of years. I bought a cool marble cheese cutter that will hopefully last for a long time!
